Frequently asked questions
How well do I need to swim to play underwater hockey?
You will need to be comfortable swimming and treading water for extended period of time to play this sport. While fins help a lot with this, players who do not swim would definitely struggle. That being said you do not need to come from a competitive swimming background or be a member of a swim team to play this sport.
How much does it cost?
Beginners and visiting players can attend a few practices for free. Regular practices are cost shared and typically cost $10 per practice. For tournaments participation you will need to register annually with the Underwater Society of America (USOA) which costs approximately $30 per year.
Do I need to have graduated from Roger Bacon High School to play with Team Cincinnati?
No, though don't be surprised that a lot of our players did.
How can I contact you?
You can reach us through our email at cincinnatiUWH@gmail.com or use the e-form on our Contact page. We are always happy to answer your questions.
How long do I need to hold my breath to play this sport?
In a game most players might only hold their breath for 10 to 15 seconds at a time. Some can do much longer, but breath hold is something that most people develop over time while practicing.
Do I need to have a pool membership to play?
No need for a membership. We rent the pools as a team so you will not need to pay extra for a membership. See our Locations and Pools section for more information about where we play.
I do not have any equipment, but I would like to try underwater hockey. Do I need to buy equipment?
We can typically pull together equipment for new players. The most difficult piece to get is fins. Please contact us before the practice, and let us know your shoe size so we can find fins that will fit.
